Keeping your online account protected with multi-factor authentication (MFA)

10 Sep 2025

We use MFA to protect your data when logging into our online services.

From today, we're introducing an alternative MFA method of using an authenticator app, providing an increased level of data protection for registrants and applicants.

You don’t need to take any action until you next login to your online account.

You will then be able to choose your preferred MFA method from either:

  • email or
  • authenticator app

We strongly recommend using an authenticator app, this is the most secure method and can be download to your smartphone.

Support

We encourage you to allow extra time to complete time-sensitive tasks such as renewals, in case these new steps take longer than expected.

We have published step-by-step guidance to help with setting up MFA.

Please be aware that there may be some disruption to online accounts during 10 September 2025, while the changes are being implemented.

What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

MFA is widely recognised as one of the most effective ways to protect data and accounts from unauthorised access.

It adds a layer of security to online services by requiring users to enter more information than just a password.

We strongly recommend using an authenticator app (such as the Microsoft Authenticator app) when using MFA, this is the most secure method and can be downloaded to your smartphone.
